Ingredients:
For the Patty Melt:
1 lb ground beef
8 slices Texas toast or thick-cut white bread
1 large onion, thinly sliced
4 slices Monterey Jack cheese
4 tbsp butter, softened
1 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
For the Special Sauce:
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup ketchup
2 tbsp Dijon mustard
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp hot sauce
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp smoked paprika
Directions:
Prepare the Onions: In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the sliced onions and cook for about 10 minutes until caramelized. Set aside.
Make the Sauce: In a bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, ketchup, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, garlic powder, and smoked paprika until well blended. Set aside.
Cook the Patties: Season the ground beef with salt and pepper. Divide the beef into 4 patties and cook in the skillet for 3-4 minutes per side over medium-high heat, until browned and fully cooked. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
Assemble the Sandwiches: Butter one side of each slice of Texas toast. Place the buttered side down on a skillet over medium heat. Add a slice of cheese, a beef patty, caramelized onions, and a generous amount of special sauce. Top with another slice of buttered bread, butter side up.
Cook the Patty Melt: Cook the sandwiches for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and the cheese is melted. Slice in half and serve immediately.
